Day 1
The eight member Bluephin squad hit the
pool today for the first session of the 2010 Age Group Nationals. Three
club and two provincial records feel along with five lifetime best
swims. The team is in great spirits and having a blast coming together
as a team. Only two members of the squad have been to Age Group
Nationals before; Paige Crowell and James Profit. The remaining six
swimmers are 1st time qualifiers for the event; Rudi Hurnik, Joseph
Sulaiman, Nigel Champion, Kyle Bryenton, Laurel White and Rhea Hurnik.
UPEI Panther Sydney Morley is also at the competition representing her
home team of Bow River Swim Association.
Top improvements of the
day went to Paige Crowell in the 50 Breaststroke and James Profit in
the 200 Backstroke. The time for Crowell of 34.39 was nearly a full
second off her best time. The effort was also under the Long Course
Senior National standard. Profit was over four seconds better in his
200 backstroke and almost a full second faster then last years time at
this meet. Less then a month ago James was having his appendix out and
was unsure about how he would perform at the meet....the answer is
awesome!
The team will be back in the water Thursday so check
